Review: Deja Voodoo

untitled Deja Voodoo by Elle James

3.5 out of 5 Licks

A little magic goes a long way…Alexandra Belle Boyette is closing in on the big 3-0 and her  mama has made it her mission to marry her off. In the tiny parish of  Bayou Miste, deep in the Louisiana swamps, finding suitable hubby  material can be a challenge—and Alex would rather not rely on magical  spells to do the trick. But there is a sexy new man in town who might  fit the bill…  Ed Marceaux is in Bayou Miste to safeguard a key  witness to a Louisiana Mafia murder. He must keep an eye out for  suspicious characters—but the place seems to be full of them! What could be stranger than a woman dressed in a sexy nightgown chasing a naked  man down the street? The enchantingly gorgeous Alex Boyette certainly  makes it worth his while to find out… Add a Voodoo spell gone wrong, and voila! madness—and love—ensues.

This was a fun, sexy, supernatural read.  I really enjoyed the using of Voodoo and it going wrong, reminded me of Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon.  This is the 3rd book in the series, but honestly I don’t think I missed anything by reading this one first; all references were pretty easy to follow.  I do have to say I want to really go back and read the 2nd book, it sounds really funny.

All I can say is that if you Ever hear me say that I want 19 children…just slap me upside the head…lol  Alexandra Belle is part of a BIG family, that is close and loving.  I have got to tell you the names of her siblings because it just made me laugh:  Ben (though in this book you don’t get the full name), Alexandra Belle, Harry, Truman, Amelia, Abraham, George Washington, Dolley, Madison, John Kennedy, Thomas, Edison, Paul Revere, Susan B., Woodrow, Eleanor, Teddy, Roosevelt and Molly B.

Being the oldest girl Alex is like a second Mom to her siblings, and after her father’s death she feels like she needs to more or less put her life on hold for her family. Now Ed has commitment issues.  He is divorced from his wife who felt he spent too much time with his job.  Also, he was orphaned as a small child, so that adds to his issues.  So, they both have issues but they are excellent together.

When the two meet is probably one of the funniest first meetings ever. Alex’s friend and sister-in-law tries to help Alex by doing some voodoo for her love life, well that backfires and changes her dog, Sport into a man.  So, Alex, in a short nightie and her friend Calliope are chasing a now naked human Sport down the street.  The first morning Ed is there is out for his morning run and finds the other three running down the street.

This truly is a fun read with everything you could want in it: love, drama, fun, voodoo, action and mystery.  Great story to read at the beach or by the pool.  Putting in my two cents for the next book…it has to be for Calliope.
