Good Guys Wear Black, Book 1

SWAT officer Cole Westling walks a fine line of control. If his wife knew exactly what he wanted to do to her, he’d lose the most precious thing in his life. Instead, he throws himself into work.

Tanya Westling did not leave her job as a globe-trotting humanitarian to spend her nights playing roller derby and sleeping alone. Armed with a few adult toys and a prayer, she challenges him to a sensual game that will strip away their ideas of what sex should be.

Cole’s surprised but it’s his dream come true. With each sexual encounter, the walls between them come crumbling down and each must face the truth of what their marriage has been and what it could be.

Inside Scoop:  Contains an alpha hero who wants sex at all hours and a heroine who knows what she wants, just not the words to get it. Also depicts criminal activity, the strong arm of the law and a self-rescuing heroine.

This book is a little different from most of the romance I read because the couple starts off already together.  After all of their years together, they have fallen into a routine.  The don’t really communicate anymore.  Speaking as someone who has been with the same person for the last 13 years I can definitely vouch for that happening.  That certainly doesn’t mean there isn’t conflict though.  Once the bad guys get involved all bets are off.  I was kept guessing as to what the outcome would be.  I knew Tanya and Cole would survive but for a while I honestly wasn’t so sure about each of their teammates.  The beginning a the book was pretty slow for me but it picked up toward the end.  Roller derby is not an element I’ve read before so that was a fun addition to the mix.  Can’t help but love some bad ass girls who like to keep things a little rough.  Tanya’s mix of sweet and bad ass makes her a lovable character.  Cole could be a bit of a pansy for such a bad ass SWAT cop at times though.  Overall I enjoyed watching this couple explore and find their way back to each other.  I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series brings.
