Contest:…And He Can Cook!

…And He Can Cook! by Chef Lee

5 out of 5 Licks

Now by now some of you may have noticed this seems to be a cookbook.  lol That’s because it is!  It’s a hilarious cookbook with quotes from some of my favorite dirty authors in it.  …And He Can Cook! is the funniest cookbook I’ve ever read I have never laughed so much reading anything.  I couldn’t even make it through the introduction without thinking I was going to pee my pants.  Chef Lee has all the credentials to be writing a cookbook.  With over 14 years of experience as a professional chef he is the perfect man to give you some great cooking advise along with some recipes that sound like they are from Heaven.  Chef Lee breaks it down for the most culinary challenged (like me!) and goes through the items you should have in your kitchen and lots of dating advise scattered throughout the book.  I literally read through every bit of it because Chef Lee even peppered funny jokes in the recipes themselves.  Romance authors lend a hand with some dating advise throughout as well.  This is a great book to share with your hubby or boyfriend or anyone you want to encourage to cook for you and maybe even be a better date.  So to show you how awesome I think this book is I’m going to give away a copy.  That’s right I’m giving it away.  I didn’t get a copy to give away either peeps!  I’m gifting this bad boy through Amazon or B&N to one lucky person.  What do I want from you to enter you ask?  Well I’m going to share a funny cooking story and I want you to share one too.  :)   That’s it!

When my hubby proposed we went to a cooking show to get a free trip to some exotic location (no we never went) and they were selling very fancy (read expensive) pots and pans.  My husband (fiance at the time) decided we needed these pots and pans!  He wouldn’t let it go and thus our first big purchase together.  I was assured we would be able to pass these things down to our great-grandkids and I will admit it’s been over 10 years now and we still have them and they are just the same as they were.  Anyway they made us this amazing lemon pepper chicken and it looked sooooo easy.  Of course the first thing I did when they were delivered is proceed to make the chicken.  I had all the ingredients and started cooking.  I put it on a plate for my hubby and cleaned up just a little bit before sitting down with a plate myself.  Hubby was eating when I sat down and I asked what he thought and he said it was ok.  I cut into my piece of chicken and it was RAW inside!!!!!  Like RAW not even just a little pink.  Hubby had only taken a couple bites before I took it away from him and threw it away.  lol So I tried to kill my future husband.  Perhaps if I had this cookbook I would have cooked my chicken instead of feeding him a raw bird.  lol

Do you have a funny cooking story or a great cooking story?  Share it with me and I’ll pick a winner to choose from a Kindle or B&N gifting for a copy of this cookbook.  I’ll pick a winner next Thursday so you have plenty of time to post your story or make one up.  lol  ;)

Review: Under His Protection

Under His Protection by Karen Erickson

4 out of 5 Licks

Protect and Defend, Book 1

Protecting the vice president’s daughter is Secret Service agent Mason Russell’s top priority. With the election looming and the party’s hold shaky, Mason’s been given an important assignment – rein the controversial party girl Blake Hewitt in.

He’d like to rein Blake in all right. Keep her under his control and naked beneath him at all times. Blake is the sexiest thing he’s ever seen but she’s strictly off limits. Though she tempts him like no other.

Banished from the capital and sent far away to the family’s vacation home, Blake seizes her chance. She’ll make Mason hers no matter what it takes. But the noble Mason doesn’t make it easy, and danger lurks where they least expect it…

Blake and Mason have a lot of sexual tension pulling the two of them together but Mason is trying so hard to be a professional and resist the urge to show Blake just how much he wants her.  He has worked really hard to get to where he is and doesn’t want anything to jeopardize his future.  While Blake and Mason are in such close contact on an island it was harder and harder to stop the magnetic pull between them.  It takes Blake being kidnapped and held hostage (albeit only for a very short time) for Mason to realize how much he cares for her.  After he is injured she thinks she has lost him forever but has she?

I feel sorry for Blake, even though she has never had to want for money she does want for affection and true friendship.  Being the daughter of a big time politician all her life has meant lots of fake friends who only like her for her connections.  I liked this one overall.  It must have grabbed me even more than I thought because once I started reading I couldn’t stop until I finished it.  I just couldn’t put it down.  I definitely want to see where the rest of this series goes.

Review: Dangerous Secrets

Dangerous Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones

3.5 out of 5 Licks

Being a divorce attorney for the rich and famous isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Julie Harrison has learned that love doesn’t last, and she’s sworn never to make the same mistakes as her mother, or her clients. She uses the games men play to keep them at a distance. The only man who managed to break down her walls was Luke Walker, a Navy SEAL who loved her and left her, and changed her forever.

When Luke arrives back in New York, running Walker Security with his brothers and having left his Navy SEAL days behind, he sets his sights on Julie, the woman he’s always wanted and couldn’t have. Except, she runs from him every time he gets close.

But now, one of Julie’s clients, a powerful judge, gets involved with a dangerous cartel, and his soon-to-be-ex wife ends up dead. Julie’s next on the list, and she finds herself on the run from those who believe she knows too much, and counting on Luke to keep her alive. In the deepest, darkest moments of the night, passion will bring them together while danger threatens to tear them apart. Can Julie and Luke trust each other and find their happy ending before they find … the end?

Dangerous Secrets is the second in The Walker Brothers Trilogy.  I am really enjoying this series.  The passion (and tension) between Julie and Luke is high.  We get glimpses of the past when they were seeing each other before.  Julie’s past prevents her from wanting to get too close to anyone but Luke won’t let that happen again.  There were great sex scenes and lots of suspense.  I had an idea who might be the bad guy but I never knew until the very end.  Ms. Jones is great at keeping the suspense high and the bad guy a secret.  I don’t think I have ever guessed the right bad guy for any of her books…The ending felt a wee bit rushed for me but that might have been due to all the action coming to a head.  Overall I thought this was a well written story that definitely deserves a read!  :)

I can’t wait for Blake’s story.  His past is so heart wrenching I am really hoping for a happy ever after for him.  Until we get his story everyone go check out Dangerous Secrets and let me know what you think!

RT Pictures Round 1

So since I talked about Rachel Grace’s debut novel Geared For Pleasure yesterday I thought it would be fun to post some pictures from RT of Rachel Grace and Eden Bradley in their various steampunk outfits.  I even threw in a pic of me in steampunk gear.  I was dressed by other people.  I have no sense of style whatsoever!  lol  :)

I have more pics to post later but I hope you enjoyed these for now.  I must add that I didn’t know Karina Cooper prior to RT and she is awesome!!!  She is so much fun and I can’t wait to dive into her books-she’s also given me some signed ones to give away!!  ;)

Check back later for more pictures and eventually the big RT swag giveaway!!

Review: Geared For Pleasure

Geared For Pleasure by Rachel Grace

4.5 out of 5 Licks

So I am not huge into the steampunk world.  It’s not that I don’t like it I just haven’t really read any of it yet.  Lol I really didn’t have any ideas what this book was about when I started reading it. I’ve been doing this a lot lately and I like it.  Since I have no idea of the plot it makes the story more exciting for me.  Ms. Grace’s delve into the world of “clockworky steampunkitude” as she calls it was lots of fun.  I really enjoyed the world building around Theorrey.  She even has a map on her website to help you visualize if you are so inclined.  I also liked that this book is broken into two separate stories.  I love when authors do that.  I get to get closer to the characters that way.

First up in Earthly Desires is Dare and Bodhan.  As the Queen’s Challace Dare is tasked with hunting her down when she goes missing. Bodhan own an underwater brothel (cool huh?).  Dare wakes up to find herself on Bodhan’s ship and doesn’t know who to trust. The sparks fly between the two of them but Dare is innocent in more ways than one.  The tension between these two was ridiculous.  I loved seeing all the things through Dare’s eyes.  Her life in the palace prevented her from knowing the vast array of technology in the world.  I can’t say much more without giving away plot points but this is a hot sweet story that leads nicely into the next story.

In Fiery Temptations we learn more about Seraphina AKA Phina and Cyrus.  Cyrus is the Queen’s Sword and was betrayed by Phina early on.  This one made me cry, laugh, smile, and laugh some more.  Ms. Grace did an amazing job portraying the emotion between these characters.  I cannot wait for the next in the series so we can read about Captain Amaranthe (I think her story will be my favorite) and Aurora Steele.

One of my favorite things about this world is that the women were based on some of Rachel Grace’s friends.  Aurora Steel is Crystal Jordan, Seraphina Felidae is Feisty, Captain Amaranthe is Eden Bradley/Eve Berlin, and Dare Senedal is Ms Rachel Grace AKA RG Alexander herself.  It was fun seeing the authors come to life in a new and different way.  Great way to start a series and new name for Ms. Grace!

Guest Review: Sweet Irish Kiss

Sweet Irish Kiss by JoAnne Kenrick

4 out of 5 Licks

Shaun has been burned by his ex and is a little more than gun-shy. He owns and operates a booming little Irish Pub and has his share of close friends. But what he really wants is to be married with children. If only he could get over his shyness. Finding an online dating service called, One Night Stand, sounds like the perfect solution to break him back in.

Rachel is a little bitter after her parents divorced. Her dad was what she thought the perfect husband and father, until the truth about his multiple infidelities come out. She doesn’t want to go through the same pain and misery as her mother. An online dating service that allows her a no strings attached one night stand sounds like the best way to get back into the game, so to speak.

With butterflies doing the mamba in his stomach Shaun waits for his date in the hotel suite he’d rented for the night. Although it’s only supposed to be a one-time thing, he hopes it turns out to be more. When Rachel first walks into the room his body woke up and waved hello.

Falling on your face in front of an absolutely gorgeous man is embarrassing. But doing it in front of your date, a man you haven’t met yet, even more so. Rachel pulled herself up and used bravado to cover her unease. The man was supposed to be average. That’s what he put on his profile, however this man is gorgeous.

They have a steamy night of unbelievable passion, stretching both their boundaries. When morning comes Rachel likes waking up with Shaun more than she should. Thinking about doing it again and again makes her run as fast as her feet could carry her out of the suite and back to her life.

Will Rachel find Shaun could be just what she needs or will she keep running from those Sweet Irish Kisses?

Review:

A Sweet Irish Kiss is a quick fun read with just enough heat to leave you panting. Although this is set in another country, the wonderful brogues suck you in and make you wish you were there. Shaun is a guy you fall in love with from the very beginning, and you can’t help but root for him. Rachel tugs at your heart, but at the same time makes you want to shake her and tell her to get over it already.

I really enjoyed the story and fell in love with the secondary characters as well as Shaun and Rachel. Ms. Kenrick has a way of bringing the characters to life with her dialogue and set up. It was truly easy to picture every scene she drew. By the end of the story I felt a little Irish myself.

Guest Review: Grimm Tidings

 Grimm Tidings By Shiloh Walker

3.5 out of 5 Licks

Never fear the pain. Fear what lies behind it…

Grimm’s Circle, Book 6

In his mortal life, the only thing Jacob liked better than money was a good brawl—until he stuck his fist into the wrong fight, and a demon sent him spinning into a new life as a Grimm.

Now, a hundred years later, he’s been called to protect someone too much like himself. A woman who could let the chains of her past drag her down unless she learns to let go. A woman who fights like there’s no tomorrow, because she clearly doesn’t want a tomorrow.
Celine thought her second chance at life would be an opportunity to fix some of her worst mistakes, to set things straight. She couldn’t have been more wrong. She’s trapped by the past and her regrets, and nothing—not even her darkly sexy new trainer, Jacob—has a blade sharp enough to cut her loose.

Chains are Jacob’s specialty, but his help comes with a price. To her, the cost is her heart. To Jacob…something much more.

This is book 6 of the Grimm’s Circle series and each book takes a new twist on a fairytale.  Now each book can be stand alone, but I find it helpful to read the series in order because of recurring characters and events.  In Grimm Tidings we get an interesting take on Jacob from A Christmas Carole.  Without giving away too much of the story Celine has become a Grimm,  but because of regrets from the past what she really wants is to forget it all.  In walks Jacob brought in to train her and help her come to terms with her past.

What I liked about this story is that both characters are kick ass fighters and even though they are both strong physically, emotionally they are weak.  There is lots of emotion and angst, but that they work it out together makes it worth the wait for the HEA.  The way Ms. Walker weaves in the Jacob and A Christmas Carole with him being Grimm and his powers is very creative and original.  I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend this and the whole series.
Thanks for stopping by

Guest Review: Negligee Behavior

Negligee Behavior by Shelli Stevens

4 out of 5 Licks

Hello, it’s you friendly neighborhood Frog Fairy hopping by for another review.  Sorry I have been so quiet lately. Things in my pond have been “buzzing”  But I decided I deserved a little reading time so I decided to crack open a good contemporary romance.
When lingerie heiress Brandy Summer gets cold feet and runs out on her Vegas wedding, she has nowhere to turn – so she hijacks a hunky biker waiting for a red light and begs him for help. What she doesn’t know is that her instincts are right: the groom has a hidden agenda. He needs her money to pay off his gambling debts and she’ s his ticket to the good life.

Marco Vargas isn’ t sure what he’s getting himself into when he rescues Brandy, but figures he’ ll do the chivalrous thing. He offers her a job in his bar and the chance to sort out her feelings. But it seems that keeping Brandy hidden is easier than keeping his hands off her; and what will happen when Brandy discovers that Marco has secrets of his own?

For a lingerie heiress, Brandy sure is straight-laced and not a little uptight. She makes a wise choice leaving her scummy fiance at the altar though. YAY Brandy! Immediately she manages to find a slightly more bad ass guy.  By accident. And she doesn’t really find him so much as use him to make a fast get away.  There are enough plot twists and turns to make this a cute and interesting book at the same time. I enjoyed the characters and the hilarity involved in the story.  I did not enjoy the big deal made out of Marco’s “past”. I felt like it was just a big deal made out of something small. He is a strong character and I felt like the issue he had with his past didn’t match his personality.  That in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the story over all.  It was a fun, light read that kept my interest the whole time. If you have some spare time and are looking for a good book that will make you laugh and put you in a good mood, this is it.

That is all for now from this Frog.  Ribbit, Ribbit!

I gotta add that I read this one too and really enjoyed it!
